My 'Why' Story:

My story begins with my grandfather, Jim Shaw. He was a pastor for 40 years, faithfully serving his congregation and living out his calling. In those days, it wasn’t common for pastors to ask for, or for that matter receive, financial advice. Many believed that God would always provide—and of course, He did. But at the end of their journey, my grandparents struggled financially.

Watching that shaped me deeply. It showed me that even the most faithful and hardworking people can face financial challenges if they don’t have guidance and a plan. That experience planted a seed in me: a desire to help people like my grandfather, and others who may not even realize they need financial advice until it’s too late.

For the past 30 years, I’ve built a career in coaching and teaching. I’ve always loved helping people discover their potential, set goals, and achieve success. Today, I bring that same passion into my work with Thrivent—helping individuals and families find financial security and confidence.

I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live generously and without financial fear. My “why” is simple: I want to walk alongside people, offering the guidance and tools they need to thrive, so that their story ends not with struggle, but with peace, security, and the ability to bless others.
